A Star-Spangled Summer, War Comes to Mount Welby

 





Calling all War of 1812 connoisseurs, American history buffs, and citizens of all ages!  The National Park Service invites you to attend, “A Star-Spangled Summer – The War of 1812 Comes to Mount Welby.” on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Oxon Cove Park located in Oxon Hill, Maryland.  Through a series of dramatic vignettes, you will step back in time and experience the breath-taking events of the summer of 1814 when the British invaded Maryland both by foot and by water.



You will encounter a run-away slave, the English born Mistress of Mount Welby and her American born son, an American Regiment, a member of the 16th Regiment of the Maryland Militia, a citizen soldier, and a Royal Marine Officer on this short walking tour.

At the conclusion of the walking tour visitors will have an opportunity personally interact with the reenactors during a question and answer session.  The program concludes a with a presentation  and discussion of  War of 1812 music by noted music historian, David Hildebrande, PhD.
