Hometown: Chicago
Birthday: April 20
Bio: Married

As a journalist, if I could describe the ideal job this would be it. Working in a vibrant, growing, close-knit community reporting on news that matters to you everyday. Not to mention getting to combine modern technology with good old-fashioned reporting and writing. I got my start in journalism more than 15 years ago with a Journalism degree from Howard University where I was features editor of The Community News covering the neighborhoods surrounding this Northwest neighborhood.

After starting my career with positions at Patuxent Publishing Company in Howard County and working in non profit public relations, I took time off to be a stay at home mom and freelance writer. Most recently I've written for publications such as The Gazette Newspapers, The Washington Times, Ebony Magazine, UrbanTurf.com and a host of others throughout the years. I also worked part-time the past few years as Associate Editor of The Community College Times, a national trade publication produced by the American Association of Communty Colleges in DuPont Circle.

I'm originally from Chicago and miss the skyline and deep dish pizza tremendously. However, I have been in the area for ten years and love it here but I'm still on a mission to find the perfect Chicago-style hot dog. I live in nearby Bowie and spend a lot of time in Crofton both working and socializing. I enjoy delivering meals to seniors for a non-profit in the District, serve on the City of Bowie's Community Outreach Committee and even dabbled in radio broadcast recently as an on-air morning volunteer news anchor with WPFW-FM.

Look for me in local restaurants, the coffee shop, library and wherever I can grab a seat with my laptop. Don't hesitate to say 'hello' or pass along a story idea.

Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics

Democrat but can see both sides of the fence in many instances.

Religion
How religious would you consider yourself? (casual, observant, devout, non religious) I was raised attending both Baptist and Catholic Churches.

Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?

Smart growth when it comes to new development and the need for a local high school.
