Argument Over Coat Leads to Gunfire in Forestville

An argument over a missing coat turned physical and gunfire broke out striking three victims, according to the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office.

  A man was arrested in Forestville, MD on charges of first-degree murder after an argument over a missing coat turned physical and shots were fired, according to the Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff. Lonell Bowen, 20, of Forestville was arrested Jan. 3 on an arrest warrant for attempted first degree murder obtained by the Prince George's County Police, according to the Sheriff's Office. Bowen is charged with two additional counts of attempted first degree murder along with other charges, the Sheriff's Office stated.  Bowen attended a dance in the 3800 block of Penn Belt Place in Forestville on Dec. 29 when the argument broke out over the missing coat, according to the Sheriff's Office. Police: Woman Endangered Infant, Assaulted Parents with Knife

Kyra Chimere Smith reportedly tried to jump from a window while holding her child after she allegedly assaulted her parents, according to police.

A Bowie woman was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting her parents, threatening to kill her father with a knife and jumping from a second-story window while holding her child, according to police. Kyra Chimere Smith, 23, faces charges one charge each of first-degree assault, second-degree child abuse, reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure and two counts of second-degree assault, according to online court records. A release from the Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff states that a warrant for Smith's arrest was dated March 10 and filed by the Bowie Police Department (BPD). Bears Help Prince George's County Sheriffs Comfort Distraught Children

Prince George’s County Sheriff Melvin C. High accepted over 100 teddy bears from the county chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors to help deputies console children they encounter on their calls.

Ever wonder how officers comfort children who suffer trauma during police calls? With teddy bears, of course. To that end, Prince George’s County Sheriff Melvin C. High accepted over 100 of them from the county chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors last week. The stuffed animals will be used by sheriff’s deputies to comfort small children they come in contact with, primarily during domestic violence calls. One time my son (age 5 at the time) ran away from our house, and when a kind man at a bus stop called the police, they brought a bear for him to hold until they could find me. When I got there, there were 3 policemen all standing around my son while he told them stories about the bear.
