Free Tax Preparation in Upper Marlboro

Sign up today for help on your 2012 tax return.

Need help with your 2012 tax return? The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is offering free tax preparation to Upper Marlboro and other Prince George's County residents. The program is offered through Prince George's Community College's Community Financial Center. The volunteers are trained and certified as IRS Volunteer Income Tax Preparers. In 2012, VITA prepared more than 2,000 federal and state tax returns in Prince George's County, resulting in returns of more than $975,000 of federal tax refunds and more than $318,000 of Maryland tax refunds. Seniors and low-income residents who used the program saved nearly $131,000 in tax preparation fees. Families can sign up for the program is their maximum household income is $51,000, …

Prince George's Community College Students Harlem Shake

PGCC students join in on the Harlem Shake viral video trend.

The U.S. Navy did it. So did the U.S. Army. More recently, University of Maryland students jumped in on the viral video trend of posting short clips of people dancing to Baauer's Harlem Shake. So now Prince George's Community College has their own version. Shot by Wayne J. Bertram Jr., the video features two students dancing in a helmet and WMATA hard hat, before the music drops and a ton of students join in on the fun.

Prince George's Community College Chooses Its Official Song

The college's new victory song will be performed at athletic events, commencement and other student activities.

  A dozen entries came in from students staff and faculty in Prince George's Community College's contest to select lyrics for a victory song — and the winner was "Victorious," literally. Plans to put the winning lyrics of "Victorious" to music are underway, according Joe Clark, PGCC spokesman. The victory song will be performed at athletic events, commencement and other student activities, according to Kalika White, lyrics contest committee member. “We wanted students to get excited about attending and graduating from Prince George's Community College,” said White. Free HIV Testing Offered in Prince George's for World AIDS Day

An event in Landover is promoting HIV prevention with testing.

It's World AIDS Day and in order to bring awareness to the disease and its prevention a number of places are offering free HIV testing. Prince George's Community College is sponsoring an event in Landover today so that residents can get a free HIV test, receive sexually transmitted infections screenings, attend a dramatic presentation and panel discussion about the disease. The event will be held at Signature Blue II, 337 Brightseat Road #20 in Landover, Md. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. According to PGCC Spokesman Joe Clark: Washington Area International Teens will perform a 30-minute dramatic presentation on how to contract and prevent HIV and AIDS.
