Paulisha Kellum started all 35 games this season for Debbie Ryan, who coached her last game on Saturday.

And thanks to a late-season run by the Cavaliers, the Upper Marlboro product almost got to say she ended her college career in the title game of a major postseason tournament. Kellum had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists on Saturday, but it was not enough as Virginia lost to Charlotte, 79-74 in the quarterfinals of the WNIT. Upper Marlboro Gains National Attention Through Hoops

CAA basketball tournament at Show Place Arena is noted across the country.

Upper Marlboro gained attention in newspapers across the country this past weekend, but you had to look closely to find it. Most sports sections ran lists and scores of Division I conference basketball tournaments for men and women at the college level. And since The Show Place Arena was host to the Colonial Athletic Association women's event from Thursday through Sunday, Upper Marlboro got some shine in the national spotlight. It was the second straight year The Show Place Arena held a Division I tourney. Last year, the Atlantic 10 Conference women's event was held here. This year, the CAA held its annual tourney off campus for the first time since 1998, and James Madison of Harrisonburg, Va., came away with the title and an automatic bid…

This week, Smith is listed as a first-round pick by NBAdraft.net and draftexpress.com. Those sites have him going in the first round with the 27th overall pick to the Dallas Mavericks. Of course much can change between now and late April. But for now, Smith continues to average about 20 points per game and a team-high five assists for the Blue Devils, who were ranked No. 1 in the country earlier this season. Duke lost on Saturday at Virginia Tech in ACC play. Wise High girls …
