Aaron Burrell Kidd of District Heights is killed in a double shooting Tuesday, police announce.
Two Suitland High School students have been killed in shootings within two days, according to police. The most recent fatality, an 18-year-old shot Tuesday night, became the sixth student killed in Prince George's during the 2012-2013 school year. The latest death came in a double shooting in Forestville that involved 18-year-old Andre Walter Shuford, who succumbed to his injuries and was pronouced dead Wednesday afternoon, according to police. Shuford was from the 3500 block of Pumphery Drive in Forestville. Shuford is a former Prince George's County Public Schools student, according to county schools spokesman Briant Coleman. Jury selection in the murder trial of 28-year-old Jason Scott—previously sentenced to 100 years in prison on federal home invasion, child pornography, and firearms charges—was set to begin Monday in Upper Marlboro. In 2010, Scott was indicted by a Prince George's County grand jury on seven counts, including two charges of premeditated murder in the 2009 deaths of Largo residents Deloris Dewitt and her daughter, Ebony Dewitt. The bodies of the Dewitts were found burning in a car not far from their home, according to The Washington Post. Marcus Antonio Jones, 16, was an apparent gunshot victim of an unknown assailant, police said.
Police have announced a meeting with the Fort Washington community on Wednesday to discuss the killing of 16-year-old Marcus Antonio Jones, according to Prince George's police. Officers found Jones suffering from an apparent gunshot wound on Sunday in the 7700 block of Webster Lane in Fort Washington, according to a police news release. Jones was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said. Police said Jones was walking to a car after leaving a home on Webster Lane when an an unknown assailant shot him and ran. A former officer shot his mistress in the head and drove their baby daughter to an apartment complex where he left her in a hot car to die, according to prosecutors.
A former Washington DC police officer was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder on Thursday in the 2011 deaths of the mother of his child and of their 11-month old daughter in Prince George's County, prosecutors said in a news release. Richmond Diallo Phillips, 40, killed Wynetta Wright, 20, and their daughter Jaylin to avoid paying child support argued Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, The Washinton Times reported. It took a jury less than two hours of deliberation to convict Phillips. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 22 and faces double life without parole plus 20 years, prosecutors stated. The county police are now charging four men in a homicide after a 2010 shooting victim died from complications from his injuries.
The Prince George's County police arrested four men this week in a 2010 fatal shooting of a Northeast DC man. According to police, 29-year-old Melvin Pate was found inside a vehicle in the 2100 block of Brooks Drive in Capitol Heights suffering from a gunshot wound on Nov. 22, 2010. Pate, of the 200 block of 58th Street, died Nov. 8 from complications related to his wound, police said. Now his death has been ruled a homicide. Police arrested the following men and charged them in the homicide: The men were all charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. Police are trying to find out who fatally shot a 49-year-old DC man.
The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a shooting in Hillcrest Heights that left a 49-year-old DC man dead. Juan Renaldo Brown, of the 3500 block of 7th Street SE, DC was found suffering from a gunshot wound outside an apartment complex in the 3900 block of 23rd Parkway in Hillcrest Heights on Nov. 7 around 7 p.m. Brown was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police continue to investigate the fatal shooting and are looking for a motive. A 33-year-old Upper Marlboro man is suspected in a Sept. 16 Capitol Heights homicide, police said.
Police identified an Upper Marlboro man as the suspect in the homicide of a 25-year-old Capitol Heights woman. Michael Jerome Stewart, 33, of the 4800 block of Amberfield Way in Upper Marlboro, was identified by police in the fatal shooting of Brittany Sade McKinley on Sept. 16 in Capitol Heights. According to police, Stewart is McKinley's ex-boyfriend. On Sunday, police responded to the 9000 block of Central Avenue around 6:14 a.m., after they received reports of a shooting. There they found McKinley, of 4600 block of Heath Street in Capitol Heights, fatally shot inside a car. County police met with more than 100 residents Monday night to talk about the case.
More than 100 residents showed up Monday evening at the Kettering Community Center to learn more about the killing of a vivacious teen— a case police say has left them without many leads. According to The Washington Post, Prince George’s Deputy Police Chief Craig Howard said police don't believe the shooting was random, but they still don't have a suspect or a motive for the killing. Howard also wanted to assure residents that their neighbor was safe, the Post reporting that there were "only three violent crimes so far this year." Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Marckel Ross, a junior at Central High School in Capitol Heights.
Updated, Sept. 11, 5 p.m.: A junior at Central High School was gunned down while walking to school Tuesday morning in Capitol Heights, according to police and school officials. According to Prince George’s County police spokeswoman Cpl. Maria McKinney, the student was identified as 18-year-old Marckel Norman Ross. PGPD received a call around 6:50 a.m. for a “man down” in the 6100 block of Old Central Avenue. When officers arrived on scene they found the victim in the 400 block of Abel Avenue, McKinney said. Ross was pronounced dead at the scene with apparent gun shot wounds to his upper body, police said. Last month, month another local high school student was gunned down in her bedroom.
