Planes, trains and automobiles—which way will you travel this holiday season? Some 90 percent of travelers or 39.1 million people plan to go by car this Thanksgiving, according to AAA. That's a .6 percent increase over last year—not much of a jump but it keeps Thanksgiving as a heavyweight in the league of heavily traveled holidays. The good news for those on the road is an expected drop in gasoline prices to between $3.24-$3.40 a gallon by Thanksgiving Day. But that expected savings needs to be judged in context. Last year's average was $3.32 per gallon, which was the most expensive average ever on Thanksgiving, according to AAA. AAA projects more than 34 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles away from
home this weekend.
As families gear up for the official welcome of summer, AAA is projecting that more than 34 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home during Memorial Day weekend. The travel club says the number of travelers is projected to increase by more than 500,000 from last year. More people will be on the roads instead of in the air this year, according to AAA. More than 30 million plan to drive to their destinations, up 1.2 percent from the number who drove last year. According to The Washington Post, retail gas prices dropped by a penny to a national average of $3.71 per gallon last Friday after a spike in April.
