Anonymous Tip Helps Pr. George's Police Solve 2012 Murder

The anonymous person who provided police with information will get a $7,500 reward—if he or she claims it.

A reward of $7,500 is waiting to be claimed by an anonymous tipster who helped detectives solve the murder of a man in Temple Hills in March, according to Lt. William Alexander, Prince George's County police spokesman. Prince George's Police agree the tip helped them put Aaron Carroll, 24, behind bars in the killing of Delonte Michael McCray, 18, of Suitland. However, Crime Solvers doesn't know who to pay, according to Alexander. Carroll was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Prince George's County Crime Solvers, Inc. voted Wednesday, agreeing the tip was reward-worthy. Now it's up to the tipster to claim it, according to Alexander.  That's the nature of keeping the process anonymous, he explained. It's the same for all crimes closed with …

August Ends Gruesome Month of Killings in Prince George's County

Among the eight deaths, a 17-year-old girl slain in her bedroom and an 18-year-old found in the street.

At least eight people were slain in a spate of gun violence in Prince George's County in August, but the county's overall murder rate appears to be slowing this year.  Killings, detailed on the Prince George's County Police Department's blog, total 34 for the year. That's a little more than a rate of four per month. County police reported 90 slayings in 2011, a rate of more than seven per month.  Police have charged five suspects in the eight deaths in August and are still searching for others.  Beginning Aug. 6, police responded to five killings in the span of a week.  First, in the early morning hours of Aug. 6, county police responded to a scene in Temple Hills in which they discovered 18-year-old Anthony Boatwright lying in the …

I see I can flag Marcus' comment as inappropriate, but unfortunately I can't flag it as ignorant. Really Marcus, "Prince George's has become a joke?" Ever been to the National Harbor, our great County park system or Bladensburg's 1812 Museum? Of course not. Where do you live anyway? Somewhere obviously where there is no crime..... And its spelled "through and through."   more ›

Pr. George's Crime Solvers Role Led to Arrest of Alleged East Coast Rapist

An anonymous tip to the Prince George's County Crime Solvers last year led to an arrest of a man accused of being the East Coast Rapist.

A man accused of being the East Coast Rapist will go on trial in Prince William County Circuit Court, thanks, in part, to an anonymous tip last year to Prince George’s County Crime Solvers.  Aaron Thomas, 40, was apprehended in March 2011 and allegedly is linked to attacks on 17 women in Maryland, Virginia and Connecticut dating back to 1997, the Gazette reported.  Zel Windsor, who has led the county’s Crime Solvers for the past five years, was named the region’s “Coordinator of the Year” during an annual Crime Solvers conference.  “I really like working with detectives and multiple jurisdictions,” Windsor told the Gazette. “You’re closing cases, meeting new people and meeting with family members who may have lost someone in a crime."  The…

Fugitive Fridays: Help Patch Find Bad Guys

Each week, Patch will run a report about a county fugitive. Let Crime Solvers know if you have any information about the criminals mentioned here. They're counting on you!

Most of us have heard of America’s Most Wanted, the TV show dedicated to rooting out the nation’s most vicious criminals on the lam. The show, which recently came to an end, was created and hosted by John Walsh, whose son Adam was kidnapped and killed when he was a child. The FBI also has a top 10 most wanted list. And if you ever read a local police blotter, you are probably aware of Crime Solvers, a national law enforcement program that offers cash rewards to people with tips that help them close cases. Prince George’s County has its own Crime Solvers program, complete with a “most wanted” list of criminals associated with local cases.  It is a nonprofit organization begun in 1979 that is governed by a volunteer board of business and …
