Bowie State Murder Trial Begins Tuesday

Alexis Simpson, 20, will face murder charges for allegedly stabbing roommate Dominique Frazier, 18, to death.

Jury selection in the Alexis Simpson Bowie State murder case concluded Thursday and opening arguments are scheduled to begin Tuesday, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s office. Simpson, now 20, is charged with stabbing her roommate, Dominique Frazier, 18, to death on Sept. 15, 2011. Both women were students at Bowie State University. According to police, the two women had an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. Police responded to a call of a cutting in the Christa McAuliffe Residential Community where they found Frazier bleeding and unconscious in the hallway of the building, police said. She was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Simpson was released on bond in April …

Unhealthy eating habits are one just one of the contributing factors in the rising rates of obesity among college students.

U.S. Education Secretary Encourages Students to Teach, Thanks Teachers

In a packed auditorium of students and educators at Bowie State University, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, along with local leaders, stressed the important role of teachers in the country.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan praised teachers from around the state and country during a town hall meeting Tuesday afternoon at Bowie State University where local leaders, teachers, and students discussed the role of educators in America. “I want to thank teachers for the extraordinary things that they do,” Duncan said. “I can’t overstate how critical great teachers are to society.” The event was part of the Department of Education’s national teacher’s recruitment initiative, TEACH, which focuses on finding quality teachers for the next generation of students. Bowie State Football Gearing Up for Next Season, Signs 13 National Letters of Intent

The Bowie State Bulldogs signed 13 players for 2011, all from Maryland and D.C.

After Bowie State's all-time leading rusher, Isaac Redman, made national headlines as a running back in the Super Bowl for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the university's football program is getting a lot more attention these days.
