The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a crash involving one of its own officers early Monday morning in South Laurel. According to police, officers responded to the scene of an accident on Baltimore Avenue and Contee Road around 2 a.m. A county police officer driving a marked SUV reportedly hit a curb while trying to turn onto Contee Road. The SUV flipped over and crashed into a lamppost, police said, which in turn landed on several parked cars. Speed and weather may have been factors in the accident, according to the department's initial investigation. The officer, a two-year veteran, has been treated and released from the hospital.
Baltimore Ave. was partially shut down following the accident.

A driver whose car was struck by a train in Brandywine, MD, Wednesday was evacuated by a Maryland State Police helicopter with life-threatening injuries, according to Prince George's Fire/EMS chief spokesman. The driver was trying to cross railroad tracks in a 2001 Ford Mustang, according to Prince George's County police. The unidentified driver is believed to be about 25-years old, according to Mark Brady, Prince George's County Fire/EMS chief spokesman. The tracks where he was struck cross Brandywine Road between Ice Plant Road and Cherry Tree Crossing Road. There are two to three train tracks within a couple mile stretch there, according to Brady. Police said it is too soon to tell whether a fire engine or tractor trailer is at fault for a beltway accident Monday that sent seven people to the hospital.
Prince George's County Police are reconstructing a major accident that occurred on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway near Route 50 early Wednesday morning causing major delays and leaving seven people injured, police said. Four firefighters, a tractor trailer driver, and two people from an SUV were taken to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries, but one of the firefighters suffered critical injury to his arm, according to Lt. William Alexander, Prince George's police spokesman. The firefighter is a 30-year-old lieutenant whose arm was severed, according to WJLA, and he underwent nine hours of surgery to have it reattached. A Prince George's County police officer died Thursday after succumbing to injuries from an accident in Clinton. Ofc. Kevin Bowden, 28, was killed after his cruiser crashed into a utility pole shortly after 3 p.m. Bowden was off-duty at the time. Photos from the crash show the cruiser severely damaged. Police and EMS responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Surratts Road and Branch Avenue, where they noted two vehicles—Bowden's cruiser and a SUV—were involved in the crash. A Silver Spring man died when another vehicle hit his motorcycle Sunday.
Prince George's County Police have identified a 26-year-old man who died Sunday in the collision of his motorcycle and a vehicle in Upper Marlboro. Dead is Juan Ariel Pena, of Silver Spring, police said via Twitter. The crash occurred at 6:39 a.m. at Brown Station Road and Fenway Lane.
