Frederick Douglas graduate David Wherley, 40, who served on the U.S. Army Parachute Team, died on Jan 31.
David Christopher Wherley, a Frederick Douglas High School graduate and an army veteran who made over 7,500 parachute jumps, died on Jan. 31, according to a recent death notice in Upper Marlboro Patch's announcements. Wherley enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1996 and served in Vicenza, Italy as an infantry mortar man until 1999. He joined the U.S. Army Parachute team in 1999, where he served more than 12 years, according to the announcement. Staff Sergeant Wherley won a number awards and decorations, including two army commendation medals, three army achievement medals, two army superior unit awards, and a military free fall parachutist badge, according to the announcement. Paul R. Dufresne of Upper Marlboro died on Jan. 23 at his home, according to Lee Funeral Homes. He was 82. Dufresne served in the U.S. Air Force and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, according to Lee.
