A man who tried to cross a road without using the crosswalk was fatally struck and killed by two cars Saturday. File|Patch
Richard Rice April 15, 2014 at 09:25 am
This is a major tragedy in two ways. First tragedy was that he did not crossed whileRead More not in a cross walk and the second tragedy was the loss to his family!! May God grant strength to those left who are grieving!

Just found this and the police really are in violation of the law and I am really angry. "InRead More Virginia, headlight flashing to warn of police activity is not illegal, even though other evasion techniques like radar detectors are outlawed.""
Pam Hamburg April 15, 2014 at 12:22 pm
Dennis, please reread what I wrote: 'After all, if you are taken into custody and accused of aRead More crime, then interrogated, LEO's can LIE to you, but don't you dare lie to them!' Works both ways. Sorry you gave up riding due to stupid motorists. In a way, I don't blame you, but I refuse. I love it. It's better than therapy and cheaper too. I love the good we riders do. ABATE works very hard on this issue, so does the MRF. That's why there are signs and window stickers everywhere: Watch Out For Bikers! I have found the biggest infraction by a motorist is failure to yield right of way, resulting in serious injury and even death, to the rider and passenger, if there is one. These motorists are cited ONLY for failure to yield right of way. A misdemeanor. A fine. Big deal. The charge SHOULD be negligent driving, vehicular manslaughter. The motorist was RESPONSIBLE. I bet that woman who missed her exit and caused the death of a rider wasn't charged for vehicular manslaughter, if anything at all. All I can say is that she will have to live with that for the rest of her miserable life. What she did endangered ALL motorists. The rider paid for her error with his life. No doubt it devastated his family and friends. Like throwing a pebble into a pond. As far as harassment goes, you have not ridden lately. Although I haven't been a victim (yet), I know others who have. I can cite stories. Some years ago, a rider and others set up a benefit event for our veterans, got all the right permits, etc., at Big Pipe Creek Park outside of Taneytown. I went the first night (Fri.). Every single rider was being stopped by the cops before being allowed to be on their way. There were pepper cannons. Someone could have murdered 10 people in Carroll County and not a cop would have responded. I only stayed long enough to hear some bands. All the way home from Taneytown to Westminster, some 10+ miles, I was followed by a sheriff. At Englar Road, where I had to turn off, the sheriff made a U turn and headed back to Taneytown. No harassment there, no sir. I returned on Sunday to find the event wrapping up and hardly anyone was there. Saturday was dismal too. The promoter ended up $500 in the hole and NO money for our veterans! I kid you not, not only were local LEO's there, but also troopers, FBI, ATF, and more. This happens at swap meets also, esp. the ones held at Howard County Fairgrounds. There is a police command center in a huge r.v. type vehicle. Undercover everywhere. We are videotaped and listened to. Pictures are taken of license plates, no matter what kind of vehicle. All of this is because of a minority 1% of riders that engage in criminal activity. I've seen 1%ers at swap meets and there has never been any problem. They are there for the same reasons we are. Treat them with respect as you would everyone else and you get respect back. I'd love to have a conversation with you, Dennis :) But I've hijacked this convo long enough :(
Dennis Gilpin April 15, 2014 at 04:33 pm
Pam, Thank you for supporting our veterans, as I am one myself. My favorite place to rideRead More was in Hartford county. Tried riding around Washington D.C. but 495 was just plain crazy. I did skydiving for years and found it was safer than riding a bike on Marylands highways LOL

This is a terrible tragedy but I don't consider Bethesda as a Baltimore suburb but a WashingtonRead More suburb. Why should this story get a mention on this site ?
ladypoet April 14, 2014 at 01:14 pm
Catch him and do the same as he did to his family. This was such a heinous crime. Who could killRead More your own mother, children and the mother of your children? A no good demon!
Patrick Carter April 14, 2014 at 02:29 pm
Find him and fry him. He should die regardless of his age. Italy probably won't help because of theRead More Amanda Knox case. I say govt should put a hit on him.

He probably retired from the state department under an alias. They didn't even notice he was missingRead More for an entire week so I'm sure they wouldn't notice if he came back to work as Juan Rodriguez or some other alias. Bunch of idiots. The FBI must finally be sick of this guy embarrassing them for 38 years
Pam Hamburg April 11, 2014 at 04:40 pm
Your government agencies at work....HA! But cops can get away with beating an unarmed or mentallyRead More challenged or mentally ill person to DEATH. What a world.

Lets all just be happy this did not turn out worse, and lets get to the facts before jumping toRead More conclusions, yes leaving the bus unattended we know is wrong, but did a child put the bus in gear? etc... Man seams to have done his job very well for years and years.

He is not a bank robber. He is probably desperate to pay back the drug money he owes to his dealer.Read More The dealer(s) are likely the cause of the eye patch, from an earlier confrontation, and have threatened to kill him if he doesn't get their money asap. This looks like a move of pure desperation, not a well thought out and cased plan.

There's a group of wonderful volunteers in Philly that run a emergency relief team for animalsRead More involved in house fires. They do fantastic work, and ask the public for help with transport and donations to help offset the medical costs. I honestly believe this is something that should be offered in all counties in every state. That is something Red Paw would LOVE to see! http://redpawemergencyreliefteam.com/

And for those who can't afford to care for their pets there are programs and organization out thereRead More that try to do what they can and help supplement food and find discounted care. Luna's House has a food pantry and NoKillHarford is just starting to get going but are looking to offer subsidies. (Both are located in Harford County) And I know most low income families can't get credit cards or don't want to use them, Care Credit is not a regular credit card. It's for use for medical care INCLUDING our pets. You have to make sure your vet accepts the card and the payment plans they accept. Some only accept the 6 month plan. I have been fortunate to not need any of those services but I'm glad to know they are indeed out there. People just don't know and it's a shame

Robert Curry April 6, 2014 at 04:10 pm
All too frequently, police deliberately place themselves in front of occupied motor vehicles,Read More deliberately making themselves targets, so as to "Justify" using deadly force in otherwise minor incidents! I tend to believe that should I, a homeowner, find someone stealing from my garage and deliberately place myself in their escape path, to attempt justification of MY use of deadly force when they come towards ME as they try to escape, the police/court would probably say I should have "Stepped Aside" amd permitted the escape! WHY the double standard? Those that escape, usually go on to continue their crime spree against other victims! Citizens should be entitled to defend themselves and their property the same as police!
Mr. Mxyzptlk April 8, 2014 at 08:59 am
Robert, you have no idea what occurred yet you spent 11 lines of text to criticize the police, yetRead More not even a single word criticizing the criminal behavior in this case. Not a single word of well wishes to the inured police officer. Not a single word of thanks for the officers doing a dangerous job with no support from those in the community such as you. "Otherwise minor"? The police had no idea if the person fleeing had just injured or killed someone in that home. Just say, "Thank You."

Thanks to all of you that protect us all everyday 24/7, and we are letting the politicians get a 16%Read More raise come on people force them to vote for it first and to "pay it forward" to those that protect us, not rule over us.

Maybe it's just a thought but f they overlooked Mr. Tatum's body during a previous search is itRead More possible they didn't look in one place for Relisha? If he purchased lime would he dispose of her remains in water? While watching a news report I noticed a port-a-potty, God please don't let this be it. Isn't lime usually for situations on land.
