UPDATE: Mitchellville Resident Named to Planning Board

A. Shaunise Washington, a Republican, lives in Mitchellville with her husband.

UPDATE, 12 P.M. -- During its meeting this week, the Prince George's County Council confirmed A. Shaunise Washington's appointment to the planning board. The Mitchellville resident was appointed along with Elizabeth M. Hewlett and Dorothy F. Bailey. 

" ... Chair Hewlett and Planning Commission members Washington and Bailey will promote smart, transit-oriented development making Prince George’s County the most dynamic, diverse, and innovative jurisdiction in the State and region,” County Executive Rushern L. Baker III said in a statement.

ORIGINAL POST: Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker III has nominated A. Shaunise Washington, an entrepreneur living in Mitchellville, to serve on the planning board, according to county information.

Washington -- a Republican appointee -- is the founder of Washington Solutions, LLC, which provides management consulting services for small, medium and large businesses, governments and non-profit organizations. Most recently, Washington retired to become a full-time businesswoman. She has worked full time as Vice President of Government Affairs Policy & Outreach for Altria Corporate Services. In her role, she provided legislative support services, among other things.

Prior to the planning board appointment, Washington worked as Director of Washington Relations for Philip Morris Management Corp. She was responsible for outreach to Capitol Hill caucuses concerning food, tobacco and beer issues. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in humanities and social sciences from the University of South Carolina, and a Cognate in mathematics.

Prince George’s County Planning Board members serve overlapping four-year terms. All current board members’ terms have expired. Planning Board members and the chairperson are appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the Prince George’s County Council.
