Performance – Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead

Why to go:  Good Grief! This unauthorized parody follows the characters of a familiar childhood comic strip, grown up and going through the deeply emotional trials of use. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, violence, rebellion, sexual relations and identity are among the issues covered in this drama.

NOTE: This production contains strong language and adult subject matter that may be offensive to some. Not suitable for children under 13.

FREE Date Night Movie: National Lampoon’s European Vacation

Where/When: National Harbor Plaza, MD, 20745, United States, Films begin at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.)

Why to go:  Nothing says summer like an evening under the stars—and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor. The 2012 season runs from Friday, May 25 through Sunday, September 28.

Whether it’s Date Night Friday or Family Sunday, pack your picnic and chairs, and meet us at the Plaza’s big screen for a FREE evening of ocean breezes and all-ages fun!

Bring your lawn chairs, but coolers filled with alcohol or food will not be allowed.

Why to go:  ALL YOU CAN EAT CRABS AND MUCH, MUCH MORE (Fried fish, roast sirloin, corn, seafood salad, hot dogs, crab soup, BBQ beef, BBQ chicken..just to name a few of the items on the all you can eat menu)! $65.00 a ticket
All proceeds go toward scholarships for 2012 High School Graduates.

2012 William Kapell International Piano Competition and Festival

Where/When:  Gildenhorn Recital Hall, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland College Park, College Park, MD 20742

Why to go:  Santiago Rodriguez, first-place winner in the 1975 Kapell International Piano Competition, has been described as "a phenomenal pianist" by The New York Times and "among the finest pianists in the world" by The Baltimore Sun.

Highlights of his lengthy concert career include performances at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York; at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London; at Schauspielhaus in Berlin; and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. He has performed internationally and throughout the United States with major symphonies and has performed as a chamber musician with the Guarneri Quartet, Ruggiero Ricci, Walter Trampler, Ransom Wilson and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center among many others.

A former member of the UMD School of Music piano faculty and current piano department chair at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, he is serving as chair of the international jury for 2012 Kapell Competition.

National Children’s Museum: Red, White and Blue

Where/When:  Launch Zone, 112 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD, United States. Friday, July 6 & Saturday, July 7, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

Why to go:  Celebrate the Fourth of July throughout the week with the National Children’s Museum. At Red, White and Blue, children will create festive firework art to commemorate America’s independence.

POPS on the Potomac with the Chesapeake Orchestra

Where/When:  Launch Zone, 112 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD, United States. Saturday, July, 7, 2012, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  

Why to go:  The Chesapeake Orchestra and National Harbor are proud to announce the creation of a new concert series, “Pops on the Potomac,” to begin Saturday, June 16th.  These concerts are free to the public and will continue through August 25, creating a regular Saturday night concert program on the Potomac at National Harbor.

Art on the Waterfront Summer Concert Series: Marcus Young – Jazz/R&B

Where/When:  Bladensburg Waterfront Park, 4601 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg, MD 20710, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Why to go:  Join us as the waterfront springs to life with music and entertainment. Enjoy music, food, crafts, prizes, vendors, movie on the jumbo screen, and much more. Refreshments for sale.
