Wise Valedictorian Can't Attend U.S. College

Jireh Silva may be returning to the Philippines, because without a social security number she cannot get financial aid for college.

As Wise's valedictorian, Silva has been accepted to a number of colleges, however she won't be attending any in the U.S.

Without her green card, she's headed back to the Phillipines to attend college, because without it she can't apply for financial aid and register for classes.

According to NBC4's Erika Gonzalez, Silva is currently packing and planning to head back to her homeland. Her mother, a teacher, brought Silva and her sister to the U.S. a few years ago to gain more opportunities, NBC4 reported.

She told Gonzalez that she can't afford school in the U.S. so returning to the Phillipines is her only option.

Silva has contacted U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-4th Dist.), and according to NBC4, Edwards' office is reviewing the situation.
