Westboro Baptist Protests Outside of Suitland High

The church was protesting against Proposition 8 Tuesday.

Students at Suitland High School were greeted with a protest when they were dismissed from school Tuesday afternoon.

Ten protesters from the Topeka, KS-based Westboro Baptist Church were protesting against Proposition 8 outside of the school at 3 p.m., according to The Gazette.

To counter protest the group's signs against gay marriage, Prince George's County community members, local pastors and school officials stood outside the school to greet students at dismissal, The Gazette reported.

According to Maryland Juice, Prince George's Young Democrats had planned a counter protest, but cancelled it at the principal's request.

It's not the first time the church has targetted a Prince George's County school. In February 2011, the church protested outside of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD.
