Upper Marlboro Resident Awarded Black Caucus Internship

Jeffrey Marks is a second year political science major at Prince George's Community College.

Jeffrey Marks, a second year political science major at Prince George’s Community College, has been awarded an internship with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. Emerging Leaders Program, college officials recently announced.

The goal of the program is to create a group of young leaders with the skills necessary to generate and sustain positive change in their respective communities, according to the Black Caucus.

The program, sponsored by Walmart, is a paid position for college students. Interns work four days on Capitol Hill — in federal agencies and nonprofit organizations — attend educational seminars that focus on domestic issues, participate in leadership-training sessions, and visit cultural and historical sites in the Washington, D.C. region.

Interns must complete a team community service project in the surrounding community. The semester-long opportunity began August 28 and continues until December 10.

“Student success is a priority at Prince George’s Community College,” Tyjaun Lee, vice president for student services, said in a statement. “From the moment students enter our doors, it is our goal to prepare them for opportunities of a lifetime.”
