Track Renovations Approved for Largo, Forestville

Prince George's County schools will initiate a bidding process to secure vendors for the reconstruction projects.

At its business meeting Thursday night, the Prince George’s County school board approved two resolutions to renovate tracks at and Forestville Military Academy.

With the school board’s vote, the county school system will initiate a bidding process to secure vendors for the renovations. There is no timetable on when the process will be completed, said Bryant Coleman, a school system spokesman.

The state awarded both schools $90,000 grants for the planning, design, construction and repair of the tracks. The bond bills stipulate that the school system match the funds being offered by the state.

The grants were originally awarded to the parent teacher associations in Largo and Forestville, yet the groups could not match the funds for their respective projects, according to school system information.

The Largo High school track is valued at $169,240.70; the Forestville track is valued at $313,509.77.
