The change was necessary to make up for education time lost on the freak early spring snow showers which closed county schools on March 6.

Because of a waiver granted by the Maryland State Department of Education, county school officials will not have to make up the day lost when Hurricane Sandy swept past our region back in October of last year.

If schools are forced to close again due to inclement weather or other unforeseen emergencies, the school year could be adjusted again to compensate.
