County Board of Education May Exclude Student Member from Executive Sessions

The Prince George’s County Board of Education may bar its student member from attending executive sessions, according to The Washington Post.

Those in support of the move say there is certain information the student shouldn’t have access to, while others question whether the board has the authority to exclude the student.

In August, the Shabnam Ahmed, a rising senior at Bowie High School will succeed the incumbent student member. Her sister Raaheela Ahmed, a rising sophomore at the University of Maryland, is challenging the current board chairman in the fall, making the matter politically sensitive, The Washington Post reports.

The change was discussed last week, but it’s unclear when the board will make its final vote.
