Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Timothy J. Jones

Whiz Kid's Name: Timothy J. Jones

Whiz Kid's Age: 11

Whiz Kid's Grade: 6th 

Whiz Kid's School: Mattaponi Elementary School

Whiz Kid's Accomplishments: Timothy is an honor roll student with a 3.5 grade-point average. He is always willing to help his classmates learn. Timothy recently received First Place and Best in the Show in the school's Science Fair for his project that determined if weather reports are accurate for the Upper Marlboro region.

For two weeks, he took the temperatures of the morning and night, then compared them with what was reported on several different news sources. Although he's received good grades on his Science Fair projects, Timothy has never placed before.

Not Just Science: Timothy is also a key player for the Marlboro Mustangs basketball team. He studies Martial Arts and has been doing this daily for six years. Timothy seves as "Business Manager" for Kids Getting Out (KGO), a group launched by his mother -- Felicia Reed -- to promote community service, reading and kids getting out and about. He helps with preparing presentations, weekly Reading Nites and coordinating other activities such as trips, lemonade sales and trash pick ups.
