It’s Time for School

How parents got their children ready for the big day!

Summer always seems to fly by so fast. Just as we get comfortable on a more relaxed schedule, it’s time to get ready for back to school time.

Many try to get all the school supplies purchased and organized before the first day; others are scrambling to get the summer work packets completed. A lot of children get nervous about making new friends, who they will sit with at lunch, and the anticipation of what teacher they will be assigned to for the school year.

Our local elementary schools offer a chance for children to “Sneek a Peek at their Seat” a few days before school starts. This enables children to come in, meet their teacher, find their seat, drop off supplies, and alleviate a lot of worries. The goal is to instill some excitement about going back to school and make children feel comfortable about the first day.

Ragnhild Erdely, mother of three boys shared, “I start having them go to bed 15 minutes earlier every day about a week before school starts, to get them as acclimated as possible to a new schedule.”  “I also get school supplies a few weeks before and label the ones that need to be labeled, and bring them with us to sneak-a-peek at our school”, she shared.

Erdely shared, “They also get haircuts, and get to pick out an outfit for the first day.  I also have them do math-facts to refresh their memory a little bit, and they spend some time reading in the middle of the day.”

Helping our children feel comfortable with going back to school makes the transition much easier.

Back to school means a more structured schedule, fall sports, homework, and a new chapter!
