Trial to Start for Policeman in Deaths of Woman, Baby

The trial is to start this week for Richmond Diallo Phillips who is charged in the deaths of a 20-year-old woman and her infant in Prince George's County, MD.

A former DC police officer, who is charged in the , will face trial this week.

Richmond Diallo Phillips was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and for child abuse, according to court records. Wright and her child were last seen the night before a scheduled for a paternity case against Phillips, 40, according to the Washington Examiner. Their bodies were found in Prince George's County.

Wright, then 20, was found on June 2 suffering from trauma to her body in Oxon Run Stream Valley Park and pronounced dead on the scene, according to Prince George's County Police. Her infant daughter, Jaylin, was found abandoned in a car in the 2400 block of Southern Avenue, according to police. She was also pronounced dead, police said.

Wright was shot in the head, WJLA reported. Police surmised her daughter died from the heat inside the car, according to The Washington Times.

Jaylin was a day short of her first birthday when her body was found, according to the Times.

The case will be the first that Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks will personally prosecute in her position since being elected in 2010, according to The Washington Times. She will prosecute the case along with veteran homicide prosecutor Wesley Adams, the Times reports.
