Prince George's Housing Operations Under New Leadership

Several of Prince George's County's housing operations shifted to new departmental oversight, County Executive Rushern Baker announced this week.

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker announced Monday that several county housing operations will be under new leadership

The housing operations were previously overseen by Carla Reid, deputy chief administrative officer (DCAO) for Economic Development and Public Infrastructure, and will now be overseen by Thomas Himler, the DCAO for Budget, Finance and Administration, according to the county.

“Carla Reid and her team have done a tremendous job overseeing our housing related operations,” Baker said in a statement. “However, I have decided, due to the high volume of finance and budget related coordination and oversight that is needed with our Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Housing Authority (HA), Redevelopment Authority, and Revenue Authority, that this cluster of agencies better aligns with the responsibilities of Mr. Himler.”

According to the county, the realignment was decided because many of the issues these agencies face involve aspects of financing and budgeting and the shift will enhance efforts in economic development.

In addition, Baker announced that the county has hired Howard Ways to serve as executive director of the Redevelopment Authority and has appointed new members of its board.

Ways is an experienced leader in urban planning and sustainability, officials said, and his hiring will allow more time and opportunity for the DHCD director to continue working on reforms within the department.

“He will have a singular focus on the important work on the Redevelopment Authority and will continue the reforms that have already been implemented by DHCD Director Eric Brown,” Baker said in a statement.

The new members of the Redevelopment Authority board members are Christopher Aragona, Monty Cooper, Glenda Hodges, David Harrington and Nabee Yi.
