County Holds Spring Pet Fest to Boost Adoptions

Reduced adoption fees and a pet fashion show will be the highlights of the event.

This Saturday the Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources’ (DER) Animal Management Division (AMD) is hosting a free Spring Pet Fest at its Animal Services Facility, located at 3750 Brown Station Road in Upper Marlboro on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“This family-friendly event will help match potential adoptees with a new four-legged friend,” said DER Director Samuel E. Wynkoop, Jr. in a statement. “Spring Pet Fest will assist us in our goal of reducing pet homelessness, and we invite the public to support this worthwhile event.”

The county is hoping to promote the importance of pet adoption. Attendees can enjoy and participate in a pet fashion show and parade, have pet photos taken, and buy items from craft, yard, and bake sales. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Animal Services Facility.

Pet adoption fees will be significantly reduced on the day of Spring Fest for those who find a furry friend to take home that day.  Fees will be $45 for cats (normally at $150) and $100 for dogs (normally $200.)
