Cost To Repair Flood Damage Tops $14 Million

The county's insurance policy will reportedly only cover about $5 million in damage to the County Administration Building.

As if the sight of last September wasn't enough, government officials recently learned it will cost between $14 million and $15 million to repair flood damage to the County Administration Building.

In September, torrential downpours resulted in massive flooding throughout Upper Marlboro, and several homes and businesses were completely submerged under water. Local food pantries saw their supplies destroyed and several .

According to a Washington Examiner report, most of the damage is not covered by the county's insurance policies. The insurance will cover about $5 million in damages, a county official told the Examiner, much less than the $50 million county officials anticipated in insurance coverage.

The county will apply to have 75 percent of the remaining repair costs covered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Examiner reported.
