Investigators with the Prince George’s County Police Department are trying to determine if speed played a factor in a single-vehicle crash collision Sunday in Oxon Hill that killed one man.
The victim is identified as Jerry Garris Jr., 27, of the 600 block of Mace Drive in Fort Washington, police said on their blog.
On Sunday at about 3 a.m., patrol officers were called to the 8800 block of Oxon Hill Road for the report of a crash. They found that an SUV had hit a tree; Garris was the only occupant of the SUV. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation reveals Garris was heading northbound on Oxon Hill Road when, for reasons which remain unclear, his SUV veered to the left, crossed the southbound lane and left the road. The SUV then struck a large tree. Garris was not wearing a seat belt.
Investigators are looking into whether speed played a role in this crash.
