Upper Marlboro Police Training Officer Killed in Car Wreck

Authorities said that speed appears to have been a factor in the single-vehicle accident.

An Upper Marlboro man training to be an officer with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police has died after his car struck a tree, reports WUSA9.com.

Prince George's County Police say Jerrell Lamont Wedge, 24, of the 1100 block of Medallion Terrace was killed Sunday about 3:30 a.m. in the accident, according to the department's blog

Patrol officers were called to Old Marlboro Pike and Maple Shade Lane on a report of a collision, the blog said. When officers arrived, they discovered a car had struck a tree. Wedge, the driver and only passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals Wedge was heading westbound on Old Marlboro Pike when for reasons which remain under investigation, his car left the roadway and struck a tree. Preliminarily, speed appears to be a factor, authorities said.
