Upper Marlboro Man Charged in Alleged Assault on Police

Michael W. King was shot by a state trooper after he attempted to attack a group of police officers with a knife, police said.

 

An Upper Marlboro man has been charged with first and second-degree assault, and assault with a deadly weapon after he tried to attack a group of police officers with a knife, Maryland State police said.

Michael W. King, who lives on the 9200 block of Goldenrod Lane, was shot by a state trooper before he could strike an officer, police said. He remains hospitalized in stable condition at the University of Maryland Hospital under police guard.

Police that that on Nov. 30, they went to King’s house to serve a warrant for drug distribution. Once they arrived, officers said they determined that King was there, but he wouldn’t answer the door.

Police entered the house to search for King and that’s when he appeared from behind a wall, ran toward the officers and tried to attack them with an upraised knife, according to police.
