Toddler Accidentally Shoots Himself in Oxon Hill

He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

County police officers are investigating the accidental self-inflicted shooting of a 2-year-old boy in Oxon Hill last night.

On Monday, at about 7:51 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road for a reported shooting. Once they arrived, the officers found the toddler suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Investigators have discovered that the child’s mother was in a separate room from the toddler when she heard the gunshot. The mother went to the room and found the toddler.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The case will be sent to the county State’s Attorney’s Office to be reviewed for any pending charges.
