Update: Teen Identified in Fatal Clinton Crash

A 17-year-old was found unresponsive by police just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Updated, May 10, 4:10 p.m.: County police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a teenager Wednesday after school.

According to police, officers responded to the 11900 block of Brandywine Road in Clinton for a single-vehicle crash just after 3 p.m. They found a 17-year-old boy unresponsive inside the car and he was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The teen was identified as Delanta Clark Jr, of the 10800 block of Slippery Elm Court. He was a student at Surrattsville High School.

Clark was driving on Brandywine Road when he lost control of his car, left the roadway and hit a tree, a preliminary investigation revealed. However, police are still trying to determine why the teen initially lost control. Clark was wearing his seatbelt, and police do not believe weather was a factor.

"We are saddened by the loss of Delante Clark, a junior at Surrattsville High School. Delante, known affectionately by his peers as “Glenn,” was a member of the JROTC and the Surrattsville football team. He will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest condolences to Delante’s friends and family, including his younger brother who is a sophomore at Surrattsville High School. Grief counselors will be available to assist our students, teachers and staff for as long as necessary."
