Update: Teen Found Fatally Shot Identified, Senior at Flowers High

A 17-year-old girl was found dead in an apartment in Kettering, police are reporting.

Update, 2:32 p.m.: The 17-year-old girl fatally shot in Kettering early Thursday morning is Amber Deanna Stanley, police said.

Police found Stanley's body in a home on the 100 block of Chartsey Street around 10:23 p.m. Wednesday. At this time police are trying to identify suspects and a motive for the killing.

Stanley was a senior at Charles H. Flowers High School in Springdale, WUSA9 reported Thursday. Principal Gorman Brown made an official announcement at the start of the school day, according to the TV station.

The Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) community is tremendously saddened by the death of Charles Herbert Flowers High School honors student Amber Stanley. This young girl had a bright future ahead of her with dreams to pursue and goals to reach. We condemn the senseless act of violence that took her life and hope that law enforcement officials will quickly bring those responsible to justice. On behalf of our school system family, we extend our deepest sympathies to all who loved Amber and pray that your memories bring you comfort in this time of grief.

Original Post, 1 a.m.: Prince George's County Police are investigating a homicide in Kettering, after they found a 17-year-old girl fatally shot inside an apartment.

According to police, the shooting occurred sometime around 10:23 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Chartsey Street.
