Taxi Hits 14-Year-Old Boy, Drives Away

The boy was rushed to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

A taxi cab hit a 14-year-old, from the Temple Hills-area, Thursday night and did not stop, according to Prince George's police. At around 6:30 p.m. police said they responded to the 4700 block of Wheeler Road in Temple Hills and found the boy in the roadway.

He was rushed to a local hospital and is in critical condition, police said.

Officers found the cab at the Southern Avenue Metro Station with the help of a witness. The driver was placed in custody Thursday night and interviewed, according to Cpl. Larry Johnson, Prince George's police spokesman. Johnson said he did not know where the driver was from.

Charges have not been filed, Johnson said. The hit-and-run investigation is ongoing, according to police.

The boy was trying to cross the road when he was hit. He was not in a crosswalk, according to police. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the accident preliminarily, police said.
