Sheriff Deputy Lamar McIntyre of Upper Marlboro has been suspended from his post without pay after he was arrested and charged with second-degree rape.
Prince George's County Police officers responded to the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro Tuesday at 2 p.m. for a report of a sexual assault, according to WUSA9.
A 34-year old female inmate, who was awaiting trial, told detectives she was sexually assaulted by a deputy, WUSA9 reported.
According a press release from the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office, county police arrested McIntyre Wednesday morning, after Sheriff Melvin C. High was notified of the charges late Tuesday night.
“My office was notified of the allegations against Deputy McIntyre last night. Upon that notification we cooperated fully and arranged to have the deputy picked up by county police when he arrived for work this morning at the court house," High said in a statement.
High said any allegation of misconduct would be taken seriously and that the sheriff's office will continue to cooperate with the ongoing criminal investigation. The sheriff's office will conduct an internal investigation.
"I am outraged and saddened by this betrayal of the public’s trust," High added. "Such behavior goes against the oath we take to uphold the highest standards and values.”
McIntyre was charged with second-degree rape and is remanded to the county jail on a $75,000 bond.
