Pr. George's ATM Heists Could Be Linked

Dramatic video shows the extent of the carnage wrought when a pickup truck crashed into gas station during ATM theft.

Police are investigating a second, earlier, vehicular smash-and-grab ATM theft in Prince George's County, similar to the one which wrecked an Exxon Mobil Station in Fort Washington on Friday morning.

According to new information released by the Prince George's County Police Department, almost exactly 24 hours before the Fort Washington ATM theft, at about 4 a.m. on Aug 1, police responded to the Xtra Fuels gas station in the 3700 block of Crain Highway in Bowie for a report of a theft. In this case, suspects used a stolen white Ford pickup truck to dislodge an ATM from its moorings before loading it into the bed of the truck and driving off.

The white truck used in the Crain Highway heist was later recovered in Northeast Washington.

Later, at about 3:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, police were dispatched to the Exxon Mobil gas station in the 10800 block of Indian Head Highway for a report of a theft where two suspects crashed a dark-colored pickup truck through the front of the gas station and then loaded the ATM into the truck's bed before the suspects drove off, according to police.

Police also revealed that a black truck believed to have been used in the Indian Head Highway heist, along with an ATM, have been recovered in Fort Washington.

Police have also released security camera videos showing the extent of the carnage wrought during the August 2 ATM theft.

The video shows the incident from two angles, inside and outside the gas station. In the video, a black pickup truck snakes its way through the fueling area before reversing suddenly into the gas station shop. Glass, debris and soda bottles are sent flying before the truck pulls out of wreckage. Then, two men are seen running into the shop, hoisting the knocked over ATM, and carrying it outside to the truck. The last shot shows the truck driving away, dragging an object behind it.
