Police Target Drunk Drivers, Illegal Guns This Labor Day

A designated driver may be a good idea this holiday weekend.

It's Labor Day weekend and although your priorities may be enjoying the last weekend of summer at barbecues and parties with adult beverages, the Prince George's County Police Department in partnership with the Maryland State Police is focused on two things—nabbing drunk drivers and collecting illegal guns.

The enforcement is a part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Police aren't disclosing where the checkpoints will be located or when, but expect a checkpoint in high traffic areas like College Park, Landover, Suitland and Oxon Hill.

Checkpoints will began Thursday night and will run through the holiday.

Specialized units will also be looking for illegal guns as part of the PGPD’s summer strategy, “Following the Firearm.”
