Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Oxon Hill

The driver had been drinking, according to police.

The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed three people this morning along Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill.

At about 3:15 a.m., a grey 2006 Mazda 3 drove northbound along Indian Head Highway just prior to Wilson Bridge Drive when a black 2002 GMC Yukon, also traveling northbound on Indian Head Highway, hit the Mazda and caused it to run off the road and strike a tree.

Gwendolyn Demby, of Manassas, Va., and another woman were injured. Demby was ejected from the car. Both women died from their injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, 53 year-old Eugene Johnson, also died from his injuries. The remaining passenger, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The driver of the GMC Yukon remained on the scene, since the car was disabled by the crash. The driver and the passenger of the Yukon did not sustain injuries, yet they apparently had been drinking, according to police. The driver was taken into custody and has not been formally charged. The passenger was released. The investigation is ongoing.
