Police Arrest Man in Murder of PGCPS Student Marckel Ross
The teen was killed on Sept. 11, 2012 while walking to school.
A 20-year-old Bryans Road man was arrested in the murder of a Prince George's County teenager.
Prince George's County Police Chief Mark Magaw announced Monday that Travon Bennett was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the of Sept. 11, 2012.
"...We are the guardians of our community," Magaw said. "When something unimanigable happens, it's our jobs to respond and assure the criminals are caught and prosecuted so they can't hurt anyone again."

For months it seemed Ross' murder remained unsolved, but a break in October actually helped police identify Bennett as a suspect.
Maj. Michael Straughan said that suspects were identified in area citizen robberies on Oct. 31. Bennett was in police custody as a suspect in those robberies and a handgun in his possession was linked to Ross' murder, Straughan said, however it took months to get enough evidence to build a case against him.

So far this school year, six Prince George's County Public School students were killed with violence. Several of the crimes remain unsolved.
