"We urge anyone who may be harboring this person, who may know where he is, who may know what direction to point us to, to contact the PGPD," said Kevin Davis, assistant chief of police for the Prince George's County Police Department. "We need to get James off the street."

Davis provided additional details about the shooting, which killed Joseph Burrough Newell, an officer in Washington, DC's Metropolitan Police Department. According to Davis, police believe James shot Newell after Newell asked his stepson to help with yardwork.

"It's as simple and as tragic as that," said Davis during a press conference earlier this morning.

After the shooting, police believe James fled on foot with the weapon in hand. The gun used was not Newell's police service weapon, according to Davis.

"We believe he is still armed," said Davis. "And we believe one or more people in the community knows where James is right now. We need their help."

Earlier today, police obtained an arrest warrant for James.

Those with any information which could help lead police to the suspect are asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.  Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477), or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) on your cell phone. Original Article—11:56 a.m.: Prince George's County Police, along with other police agencies, are searching for a 27-year-old man they believed shot and killed a DC police officer Monday night in their Upper Marlboro home.

Police believe that Antwan Rayvon James, of the 6700 block of Green Moss Drive, shot his stepfather sometime around 8 p.m. during a domestic dispute in their home.

The PGPD’s K-9 Section and other specialized teams are currently searching for James, police stated.

Joseph Burrough Newell, 46, worked as an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department. Newell joined the department in 1989 and was off-duty when the shooting occurred.

Police responded to the scene of a shooting around 8 p.m. and found Newell suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. Newell was pronounced dead on the scene.

The dispute was reportedly over yard work.

James is described as a black male, six-feet tall and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and black boots. Police said he is believed to be armed and considered dangerous.

Police warn that residents should not approach James and instead call police immediately.
