Man Dies Changing Friend's Flat Tire in Capitol Heights

A 35-year-old man lost his life early Tuesday morning changing a friend's tire.

Prince George's County Police are investigating a fatal accident that killed a 35-year-old Capitol Heights man early Tuesday morning.

Aaron Jerome Smith, of the 4300 block of Torque Street, left his home to help a friend change the flat tire on a Dodge Caravan near Nova Avenue and Rail Street in Capitol Heights.

Smith put the Caravan on a jack and was trying to get the spare tire out from underneath the vehicle around 1:30 a.m., when the jack shifted and the van fell on him.

His friend tried to rescue him, but was unsuccesful and Smith died at the scene.

Although Maryland's Health Secretary had earlier deemed the death storm-related, Prince George's detectives do not believe it was related to Hurricane Sandy's conditions.
