Fire Officials Investigate String of Arson in Upper Marlboro Area

The car fires occurred overnight Wednesday and Thursday in Prince George's County.

Fire investigators are trying to identify the suspects who started nine car fires in several communities in southern Prince George's County, including Upper Marlboro, over a 22-hour period.

The car fires and vandalism began around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 24 in the Lanham area, according to the Prince George's Fire Department's blog.

The suspects then continued to start the fires in other communities like Upper Marlboro, Kettering, Lake Arbor and Largo during the overnight hours, officials said.

According to fire officials, Prince George's County Police and investigators will be increasing patrols in the area.

Fire officials are asking residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior by calling 911. They are asking residents to note a description of the suspect or suspects and their vehicle, including a tag number. Yet, the warn residents not to put themselves into harms way.

Officials also offered tips to prevent car vandalism:

  • Leave exterior lights on at night to illuminate the area in front of your house.
  • Lock your vehicle and remove all valuables.
