Deputy Sheriff Fatally Shoots Burglar at His Fort Washington Home

A deputy sheriff who works in Alexandria, VA, was confronted by a burglary suspect when he arrived home to Fort Washington, according to police.

Update: 6:02 p.m.: Police have identified the burglary suspect who they say was fatally shot by a VA deputy sheriff while the deputy's Fort Washington home was being burglarized.

The deceased suspect is Jon Adgrain Pocknett, 20, of the 4000 block of Doncaster Drive in Indian Head, according to police.

Original Post: Authorities say an Alexandria, VA deputy sheriff who lives in Fort Washington shot a burglary suspect to death Tuesday night inside his home.

According to Prince George's County police, the deputy noticed his front door was damaged around 10:50 p.m. when he returned to his residence in 8400 block of Rose Marie Drive.

When he went inside, he was reportedly confronted by the suspect.

The homeowner shot the apparent burglar, who collapsed outside the home, according to police. Investigators believe one or more additional suspects were also on the scene.

Officers quickly responded to the scene, where the suspect was pronounced dead, police said.

Well, I hope it was worth it to him to try to take what he did NOT earn. Condolences to his family.

You're right, none of us are perfect . It's a shame that an individual who is suppose to be a law enforcement officer couldn't subdue a suspect , especially one who was probably scared when the so called law enforcement officer confronted him, with a gun . I wish you no ill will officer , but I do hope you see Jon's frighten face every night you lay your head down . You had an opportunity to save a young man from going down the wrong path , Instead you chose to take his life . SHAME ON YOU !

You need to read the article again. It says, "When he went inside, he was reportedly confronted by the suspect." That is, the homeowner/officer was confronted by the suspect. Nothing about a scared face or the officer confronting the suspect.

I do believe he did save the young man from going down the wrong path. This young man did not wander into the officer's house at night by accident. it may be an accident that he picked a house where he died instead of the inhabitants. He probably didn't plan that, at least he died as a crook versus being a killing crook.

Number one you people are a bunch of judgemental self righteous assholes. Number 2 all you know is what the shooter claims to have happen. None of you were there. You do not have both sides of the story. That shooter could be lying! John Pocknett was a decent young man. He had enlisted in the military and according to Brian Whitaker who is now in custody for the alleged burgarly the shooter shot the wrong person!

I met that young fella awhile back and I have to say that he was a very pleasant and well mannered person. Don't know what happened. Can't be mad at the shooter because Jon was in the "WRONG" place at the "WRONG" time. But I have to say that he was a very pleasant person. His father is a very nice man. Such a sad situation.
