DC Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting an Officer

Dion Morgan, 28, nearly struck an officer with his vehicle in an attempt to avoid a traffic stop.

A 28-year-old Washington, DC man has pleaded guilty to assault after hitting a police cruiser with his vehicle and almost hitting an officer during a routine traffic stop in Prince George’s County in August.

According to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, a Prince George’s County Police officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on Dion Morgan in August after identifying a bad tag on the BMW Morgan was driving. The car was stationary in a parking lot at the time, and when the officer approached the vehicle, Morgan accelerated, almost hitting the officer.

Police gave chase and Morgan eventually crashed his vehicle in Washington, DC.

“I am pleased that a dangerous individual has been removed from our streets,” State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said.  “Mr. Morgan showed a complete disregard for law enforcement and for the laws of our society when he attempted to flee this traffic stop and almost hit a police officer in the process.”

Morgan also pleaded guilty to carrying a handgun and one count of possession of crack.
