Man Airlifted after Car Struck By CSX Train
The driver sustained life-threatening injuries, according to a fire department official.
A driver whose car was struck by a train in Brandywine, MD, Wednesday was evacuated by a Maryland State Police helicopter with life-threatening injuries, according to Prince George's Fire/EMS chief spokesman.
The driver was trying to cross railroad tracks in a 2001 Ford Mustang, according to Prince George's County police.

The unidentified driver is believed to be about 25-years old, according to Mark Brady, Prince George's County Fire/EMS chief spokesman. The tracks where he was struck cross Brandywine Road between Ice Plant Road and Cherry Tree Crossing Road. There are two to three train tracks within a couple mile stretch there, according to Brady.
The driver's car was struck by an oncoming CSX train after he tried to cross the tracks when the lights were flashing red, according to a preliminary police investigation. The driver was ejected and suffered serious head trauma, police said.

No CSX employees were hurt, police said.
Police have not identified the driver and continue to investigate the crash.
