Accokeek House Fire Causes $300,000 in Damage

The fire began in the house's garage.

A family in Accokeek is displaced after a heavy fire gutted their single family home Monday afternoon, causing $300,000 damage in the process.

Shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday, firefighters were called to a reported house fire in the 700 block of Edelen Court in Accokeek. When firefighters arrived, they found a two-story home with heavy fire in an attached garage. The fire damaged three vehicles in or near the garage area before it traveled to the home's roof and second floor.

Firefighters were forced to evacuate due to untenable conditions caused by the heavy fire. The bulk of the fire was extinguished from the exterior and firefighters re-entered the home to complete extinguishment.
