Pepco 'Smart Meters' Coming to Upper Marlboro

The digital meter records your electricity usage in hourly increments.

Upper Marlboro residents will soon be converted to Pepco's new digital meters, a move that will allow the electric company to better service the area, according to Pepco.

In a fact sheet released by the company, Pepco is working with the Maryland Public Service Commission to help meet the state's energy-reduction goals. The smart meters will "eventually enable customers to better manage their energy use," according to the Pepco fact sheet.

Also in the fact sheet, Pepco said the digital meters would give the company better information on customers' energy use and allow employees to respond quickly to questions.
