Bowie Mansion Estate Auction

Bowie, MD – The contents of the historic, Bowie family home
known as Fairview, and earlier as Fairview Planation, will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The Bowie Mansion was once the home of Maryland Governor Oden Bowie (1867-1872), and continuously has been occupied by Bowies for more than 200 years. Governor Bowie, an agriculturalist, horse breeder, and forceful businessman, was instrumental in establishing Baltimore’s Pimlico racetrack and the Preakness Stakes. He also brought the railroad to southern Maryland. The first two extensions of the railroad were named in his honor and became the towns of Odenton and Bowie.

Among notable items to be auctioned is Governor Bowie’s
custom-made desk. For photos and a list of other historic items, visit www.stevedance.com and click on Bowie Estate Auction. Preview at 9:30 a.m.
