Update: Main Street Repairs to Continue Until 10 p.m.

Heavy rains caused a slope along the roadway.

Update, 5:45 p.m. -- The State Highway Administration is still repairing the slope along Main Street between Governor Oden Bowie Road and Largo Road. The repairs require SHA workers to keep Main Street as a one-way road until 10 p.m., according to SHA information.

Recent heavy rains associated with Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee had weakened the slope and threatened the stability of the roadway. SHA crews performed a so-called “soil nailing” operation to stabilize the slope. Soil nailing consists of installing metal poles along the failing slope and reinforcing them with steel.
