A new will open its doors in Prince George's County today, even as a heated.
The new District Heights location will be the 10th location in the county when it opens its doors at 9 a.m.
County Council Member Karen R. Toles (D-Dist. 7) will be attending the grand opening and said in a statement that the restaurant will boost the local economy by bringing jobs to the area.
“The opening of this new Chick-fil-A in District 7 has helped residents secure more than 100 jobs during a very rigid economy so the positive economic impact this restaurant will have on the surrounding community is exciting," Toles said in a statement. "I look forward to having them as one of our community partners and welcome minority business owner Trevelle Harvey to Prince George’s County and District 7."
The fast food chain made national headlines in July when its president, Dan Cathy, publicly condemned gay marriage in an interview with Baptist Press News.
Last week, both sides of the same-sex marriage debate held events at Chick-fil-A in order to show their support for the eatery or for same-sex marriage.
On Wednesday, Cathy supporters , including their location in Landover, according to The Washington Post. The location at Boulevard Capital Centre, which opened in 2003, has been recognized nationally for its sales, the Post reported, but on Wednesday there was a long line out of the door and cars snaking around the parking lot as hundreds came out to eat at the restaurant.
The company released a statement saying, "going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."
The restaurant will be open starting at 9 a.m. at 5502 Silver Hill Road in District Heights
