Gaming Company Buys Land For Potential Casino In Fort Washington

Greenwood Racing Inc. is vying for a state license to open Maryland's sixth casino.

Greenwood Racing Inc. is confirming its intention to operate Maryland’s sixth casino by purchasing 22 acres of land in Fort Washington, the Washington Post reported.

The land, which is near Indian Head Highway and Old Fort Road, is the site Greenwood proposed for its $800 million gaming facility, which would feature 4,750 video lottery terminals and 170 table games, the Gazette reported.

The purchase by an affiliate of Greenwood Racing Inc. was confirmed by a deed filed with the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County last month, according to the Post.

Greenwood is one of three companies that placed a bid on constructing a gaming facility in the county. Greenwood Racing Inc.’s $28.5 million bid was the highest offered, according to the Post. MGM Resorts proposed a casino at National Harbor with a $21.6 million bid, while Penn National Gaming placed a $3 million bid for a smaller casino at Rosecroft Raceway, the Gazette reported.
